WELCOME TO THE HELLMOUTH/THE HARVEST
This episode
is the premire of the series in which we learn alot of important
things
that will
set the series up for some of it's story lines. Buffy Summers has
just moved from LA to Sunnydale and meets Willow Rosenberg, the
shy computer whiz, Xander Harris, Willow's best friend since
childhood and her current crush. Rupert Giles, the librarian at
Sunnydale High and Buffy's Watcher. Cordelia Chase, the most
popular girl who rules the school and makes Willow and Xanders
life miserable. She also meets Angel who gives her a cross and
warns her of the Harvest, in which the Master will try to break
free of his entrapment in a old underground church and bring Hell
to Earth. We discover that Sunnydale is built on a Hellmouth, a
mystical convergence for demons and the forces of darkness to
vacation at. Willow and Xanders old friend, Jesse, gets turned
into a vampire and Xander ends up accidentally staking him. It
turns out that Buffy and her new friends save the day, of course.
THE WITCH
Desperate to have a normal life, Buffy tries out for the Cheerleading squad. When Amber Groves' hands catch fire at the tryouts, the gang figures out it's witchcraft. Cordelia is struck blind, Lishannes mouth gets literally sealed shut and Buffy gets deathly ill, due to a Bloodstone Vengeance Spell. Amy Madison is the prime suspect, her mom had been head cheerleader at Sunnydale in her day and wants Amy to follow in her footsteps. Turns out, that Catherine (Amy's mom)switched bodies, so she could "relive her glory days". Giles reverses all the spells cast and Catherines own spell backfires on her, and she gets trapped in her cheerleading trophy.
TEACHERSPET
The Biology teacher at Sunnydale High is found with his head dicapitated. Natalie French is the beautiful, sexy substitute that sends all the guys falling head over heels, including a hormone-driven Xander. Buffy suspects a vampire with a claw for a hand, but quickly changes her mind when she sees that vampire run from Miss French. Miss French is a She-Manits and kidnapped Xander so she could mate with him and then dicapate him. Buffy eventually does the She-Mantis in, hence saving Xander.
NEVERKILL A BOY ON THE FIRST DATE
Buffy, still desperate to have a normal life, gets a crush on a cute, Emily Dickenson reading boy named Owen and he asks her out. Giles tells her that she has to wait for the Annointed One to rise. When he doesn't Giles tells her she can meet Owen at the Bronze, but when she arrives late, she sees him dancing with Cordelia. The next day, Owen tells Buffy that Cordy is "kinda grabby" and wants to meet Buffy at the Bronze again that night. She goes, and then Willow and Xander show up, pretending to be on a date so that they can get Buffy to get to the funeral home, where Giles is trapped with vampires. Owen follows them to the funeral home and they kill the vamp that they think is the annointed one (which later we find out was not)Buffy ends up telling Owen she can't see him, realizing that she'd put his life in danger if she did.
THE PACK
Buffy, Xander and Willow are on a class trip to the zoo along with Sunnydale High's biggest bullies and the nerd they like to pick on, Lance. While Buff, Will, and Xand are looking at the Hyena cage they see the four bullies and Lance go in. Xander, wanting to play the hero, he follows them in. They all, excpet for Lance, get possessed by the Hyenas, causing them to act unlike themselves. Xander is mean to Willow and assualts Buffy. The Pack eats the mascot, Herbert the pig, and also, minus Xander, Principal Flutie. The Zookeeper, it turns out, was trying to get the Hyena's in him. He succeds at the end, but ends up getting eaten by them when he is thrown in with the Hyenas. Later, Xander tells Buffy and Willow that he doesn't remember anything he did, when he actually does.
In this
episode, we learn that Angel has a secret that will have a
porfound effect on his relationship with Buffy, much later. He's
a vampire. We 
learn much of Angels history in this episode. Darla
is his sire, she turned him into a vampire, and they were
involved for a while.Angel, or Angelus when he's bad, was the
most vicious and savage creature to ever walk the Earth, killing
for the mere pleasure of it. Until one day, he kills the favorite
of a gypsy clan and for revenge is given back his soul. He now
feels remorse for everything he has done and can no longer bring
himself to kill. In this episode, Buffy and Angel kiss for the
first time (Which is when we see he's a vampire) and Angel kills
Darla with a stake to her back.
I ROBOT, YOU JANE
The demon Moloch (AKA: Moloch, the Corrupter) was sealed into a book several centuries ago. The only way he can get out is when the book is read outloud. Willow accidentally releases him into the internet by scanning him into the computer. Under the guise of Malcolm Black, he starts an internet romance with her. Buffy is wigged about it from the start. She follows computer genius Dave to CRD, a closed down computer company, where Fritz, another computer whiz,is building Moloch a robot body. Willow is kidnapped and taken to CRD to see 'Malcolm' and she is heartbroken to see who he really is. With the help of computer teacher Jenny Calender, a cute techno-pagan, Giles gets Moloch out of the computer, but he's now trapped in the robot body. Buffy short-ciruits him by pushing him into a wiring box. Buffy, Xander and Willow talk about how they're never going to have a normal relationship at the end.
THE PUPPET SHOW
It's time for the annual Talent Show (or the Talent-less show, according to Buffy)in which Giles is put in charge by Principal Snyder, Mr. Fluties replacement. When he catches Buffy, Willow and Xander making fun of Giles he put them in the talnet show, much to their dismay. When Emily, one of the contestants, is found with her heart removed the Slayer Circle knows something's up. When Giles stumbles across info about The Brotherhood of Seven, they decide it's just a regular killing. The Seven harvest human organs every 7 years so they can stay human. The one everyone thinks it is, is vantriloquest Morgan and his dummy Sid, who's alive. Buffy thinks Sid is the demon when she finds Morga with his brain removed. Morgan had brain cancer and so his brain could not be used. The demon goes after someone smart, Buffy and Xander think it's Willow, but it's really Giles. Turns out that Sid is a demon hunter, a human trapped in the dummies body, and thought that Buffy was the demon. The demon was Marc, the magician, and when he's killed, Sid is freed.
The Slayerettes and people of Sunnydale's nightmares start coming true. Buffy's dad tells her that it is her fault her parents got a divorce. Willow has to sing in public, Xander goes to class in his boxers and is haunted by a clown from his 6th birthday, Giles forgets how to read and Cordelia becomes a fashion vicitm. Also, Buffy dies, which is a Giles-fear and comes back as a vamp, which is a Buffy-fear. It's all linked to a little boy who is beaten by his coach, and his fear is being powered by the Hellmouth. In order to stop it, he must face his fear, and he does.
OUTOF MIND, OUT OF SIGHT (THE INVISIBLE GIRL)
This episode deals with Cordelia, who is running for May Queen. Marcie Ross was a girl Cordelia and her 'Cordettes' ignored and has since become invisible. Marcie takes her rage out on Cordy's friends, Harmony (who is pushed down the stairs) and Mitch (who is beaten with a baseball bat) Buffy manages to stop her from destroying Cordy's pretty face, and agents come and take Marcie to a class for invisible people. Also in this episode, Buffy and Cordelia bond, with Cordy saying that even though she's always surrounded by people, she feels completely alone sometimes and is not sure the people around her even hear what she's saying.
PROPHECY GIRL (Season Finale)
It's Prom
time and the Master rises. We find out that Buffy will be led to
the Master
and that she will die. (Which, she actually does,
setting the Master free, but Xander does CPR on her, bringing her
back, since Angel cannot breathe) And it's in this episode where
we find out that the Hellmouth is under the school library. It
opens for the first time in this episode(and not the last.)Buffy
defeats the Master, who unlike regular vamps, his bones don't
turn into dust and his skeleton is left behind...Also in this
episode, Xander asks Buffy to the prom and she says no, prompting
Xand to ask Willow, who also says no, becuase she doesn't want to
watch him wish he was there with Buffy.
